September 11, 2025 – In the wake of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk’s assassination at a campus event at Utah Valley University, Comedy Central made the decision to remove reruns of the South Park episode titled “Got a Nut”—which parodies Kirk—from its linear television schedule.

The episode originally aired on August 6, 2025 (Season 27, Episode 2), and features the character Eric Cartman adopting aspects of Kirk’s mannerisms and public persona. In “Got a Nut,” Cartman mimics right-wing podcasters, launches debates with liberal students, and even competes for a fictional “Charlie Kirk Award for Young Masterdebaters.”

Following Kirk’s death, the episode was pulled from its scheduled rerun on Comedy Central’s cable channel, however, the episode has not been removed entirely—it remains available on streaming platforms including Paramount+ and Comedy Central On Demand.

Kirk himself had previously responded to the parody positively. After “Got a Nut” aired, he called it “hilarious,” referred to it as a sign of “viral cultural domination,” and even adopted a version of the Cartman-inspired profile image. He framed satire as something conservatives should endure and viewed the mockery as a “badge of honor.”

The decision to pull the rerun has drawn varied reactions. Some argue it was an act of respect in immediate aftermath of a tragedy. Others raise concerns about free speech, satire, and the role of entertainment in political life—especially when real‐world events intersect so sharply with fictional portrayals. Critics on the right have even suggested that the parody may have contributed to an atmosphere of political hostility. Though there is no evidence linking the episode to the shooting, the timing has fueled debate.

The move reflects broader tensions between satire, media responsibility, and mourning in deeply polarized times.
