Dinklage Dunks on Disney Over Dwarf Debacle

January 28, 2022 – Game of Thrones star, Peter Dinklage, took Disney to task over their recent announcement of a live-action remake of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. The Emmy-winner was “taken aback” after the studio celebrated the casting of a Latina actress as “Snow White” while still retaining the stereotypical mythology of the dwarfs. Dinklage was born with achondroplasia, a genetic condition that “leads to shorter bones, abnormally shaped bones and shorter stature.”

During his recent appearance on the WTF Podcast with Marc Maron, Dinklage said:

“Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f***ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*** are you doing, man?”

He continued:

“Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

The message definitely got through to Disney. The studio quickly responded with:

“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”
