Rand Paul – Derailed in Baltimore
- Funny
- Offensive
May 7, 2015 – Kentucky Senator and 2016 Presidential hopeful Rand Paul has definitely made a priority of minority issues in the early days of his campaign, and in doing so, differentiated himself from other Republican candidates. That message may have gone off the tracks during a recent interview with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham.
The Senator blamed the violent uprising in Baltimore on “the breakdown of the family structure, the lack of fathers, the lack of sort of a moral code in our society.” Paul made no mention of the circumstances surrounding the troubling death of Freddie Gray in the custody of Baltimore Police, but he did express his sympathy for “the plight of police.”
If that were the only soundbite, it would not be a topic for us. But in his remarks about the situation, Paul laughingly told Ingraham:
“I came through the train on Baltimore last night. I’m glad the train didn’t stop.”
Time will tell if the seemingly tone-deaf remarks will be for him what the “47%” comment was for Mitt Romney. In the meantime, was Rand Paul’s joke Funny Or Offensive? Vote and Comment Now!
