February 18. 2016 – One of the only people not on the receiving end of criticism from GOP frontrunner Donald Trump was the Pope. Until now. The New York real estate tycoon has called the pontiff “disgraceful” for questioning his faith. The Pope made the following comment while visiting Mexico this week:
“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.”
The Pope’s words were likely a thinly-veiled rebuke of Trump who has been who has been vocal about building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian. If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’ ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened.”
As always, the Twittersphere was quick to pick up on the feud – #MakeTheVaticanGreatAgain is currently trending.
“As someone who wrote bestselling book The Art of the Deal, I can say nobody even reads Latin. Big snooze.” #MakeTheVaticanGreatAgain
