CNN Mistakes Sex Toy Banner for ISIS Flag

June 30, 2015 – CNN international assignment editor Lucy Pawle was amidst the crowds at the London gay pride parade when she noticed someone carrying what looked like an ISIS flag. CNN quickly took to the airwaves with the “exclusive” breaking news story.  The only problem: The flag was actually a parody of the ISIS flag covered in images of dildos and butt plugs.

The intrepid Pawle said:

“This man in black and white was waving what appears to be a very bad mimicry–but a clear attempt to mimic–the ISIS flag. If you look at the flag closely, it’s clearly not Arabic. In fact it looks like it could be gobbledegook. I seem to be the only person who has spotted this.”

No not Arabic. Just an assortment of kong dongs.

She went on to boast that she immediately brought the flag to the attention of parade organizers and the London police. Without missing a beat, CNN then brought in national security analyst Peter Bergen for its exclusive report. Bergen seemed puzzled by the sight, noting that it’s unclear who was waving the flag or what his motivations would be, repeatedly observing that a gay-pride parade is a strange place to wave an ISIS flag given the group’s anti-gay views.

Clearly not interested in calming viewers, CNN anchor Suzanne Malveaux at one point wonders out loud if the flag could be a warning of a London attack: “This is our next location, this is our next attack,” she suggests.

Enjoy the “exclusive breaking news” in the video below.
