Kenyan Babies Named Air Force One in Honor of Obama Visit

July 26, 2015 – Barack Obama is partway through a visit to Kenya which already boasted numerous namesakes of the President following his first inauguration in 2008. Sigh. So common. But alas, there’s a new trend in African birth handles this week – Kenyan babies named Air Force One in honor of Obama’s celebrated return.

Initial reports which have since been dispelled suggested that the babies might had been named for the rap song by Nelly or the 1997 Harrison Ford thriller. (sorry we couldn’t resist).

There were already countless young “Barack Obamas” living in Kogelo, the President’s ancestral village, but soon after Obama touched down on Friday two new mothers in the city of Kisumu made the lofty decision to name their sons after the president’s plane, Air Force One.

“I have decided to call my baby AirForceOne Barack Obama so that we can all remember Obama’s visit to Kenya because it is a huge blessing,” said Lucy Akinyi Okoth, one mother.

Another, Lucy Atieno, decided to simply call her boy AirForce One.

“I have been told that it is the best aeroplane because it carries a very powerful leader of America who is also a Kenyan.”

Both newly birthed Air Force Ones are said to be in healthy condition.

  1. It is true. I’m Kenyan and I can confirm it! However, its a practice that is only prevalent within the Luo community, the ancestral lands of President Obama.
