Start Shredding the Cruz — New York Daily News Tells Ted Cruz to Drop Dead

January 15, 2016 – GOP Candidate Ted Cruz took a jab at competitor Donald Trump earlier this week, critiquing the billionaire for his “New York values.” The Donald didn’t take kindly to it and neither did the New York Daily News which ran the cover headline “Drop Dead, Ted” followed by the tag, “Hey Cruz! Don’t like N.Y. values? Go back to Canada!” accompanied by a drawing of the Statue of Liberty giving a one finger salute.

The phrase “New York values” came up again last night during the Republican debate on Fox Business News.  When asked by the moderator what he meant by “New York values,” Cruz answered:

“I think most people know exactly what New York values are: socially liberal, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, focused on money and the media.”

Trump was ready and counterpunched Cruz, invoking New York’s resilience after 9/11.

“I saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York. The people of New York fought and fought and fought. We saw more death and even the smell of death and it was with us for months. We rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers. And I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made.”

And with that, Trump won a lot of fans, certainly New Yorkers and the New York Daily News.

Many however felt that the paper went to far with the “Drop Dead Ted” headline and the image.
