SNL Takes Shot at Academy Awards Diversity
January 24, 2016 – With controversy continuing to grow about minorities being shut out of Academy Award acting nominations for a second consecutive year, SNL spoofed the Oscars with a sketch entitled “The Screen Guild Awards.” The faux awards show has Cecily Strong presenting the award for best actor:
“There were so many great performances this year, it’s a shame we couldn’t nominate more. But I think we can all agree these were the best of the best.”

In synch with #OscarsSoWhite, the nominees in the skit are a list of increasingly meaningless white men in African-American-led films, such as Punching Upward, Shut ‘Em Down, and All the Beasts of Heaven – parodying successful films that were largely ignored this year by the Academy — Creed, Straight Outta Compton, and Beasts of No Nation.
