July 20, 2015 – Caitlyn Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award last week at ESPN’s annual ESPY awards, but not everyone is playing ball. Among those criticizing the choice is comedian D.L. Hughley who had some choice words about the selection when pondering the issue with a TMZ reporter.
“[Ashe] was a symbol of courage. He fought [the] segregated South [and in] a very segregated profession. He fought AIDS with dignity and honor, and Caitlyn Jenner put on a dress.”
When asked if Caitlyn Jenner is a beautiful woman Hughley reluctantly agreed, “yeah in a Mrs. Doubtfire kind of way.”
Hughley went on to compare the positive attention afforded Jenner while at the same time Serena Williams has been criticized for her looks:
“In the last month, we had the media telling us that Caitlyn Jenner was beautiful and Serena Williams looks like a man. That was a little weird to me. The man looks like a woman, but the woman looks like a man? I think that’s ridiculous. I think Serena’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen on a tennis court, and Bruce Jenner looks like every P.E. teacher I’ve ever had.”
