July 15th, 2026 – What was supposed to be a routine vehicle registration renewal quickly became the talk of one South Florida retirement community after a 76-year-old woman opened her mailbox and discovered a license plate with an unintentionally suggestive message.
Nancy Dello Stritto of Pompano Beach said she was stunned when she found a newly issued Florida license plate displaying the characters “SQZ A55.” While the combination appears random, many people immediately interpret it as reading “squeeze ass,” thanks to the two number fives resembling the letter “S.”
“I don’t think a woman who is almost 77 years old should be driving around with a plate that says something like that,” Dello Stritto said after first seeing the plate. She admitted her initial reaction was disbelief, wondering how the combination could have made it through the state’s issuance process.
The plate was mailed along with her vehicle registration renewal and was not specially requested. According to reports, Florida license plates are manufactured and then distributed through county tax collector offices, making it possible for an unfortunate combination of letters and numbers to slip through despite existing review procedures.
What began as an embarrassing surprise soon became a source of amusement. Friends, neighbors, and family members overwhelmingly encouraged Dello Stritto to keep the plate, arguing that it was a once-in-a-lifetime conversation piece. She said the vote among people she asked was heavily in favor of keeping it, with only one person recommending she exchange it for a different plate.
The unusual registration has also turned Dello Stritto into something of a local celebrity. Residents in her retirement community have stopped to ask about the plate, and she joked that she might even enjoy the extra attention.
“I’m kind of resigned to it,” she said with a laugh. “Maybe it was destined to be on my car.”
Officials with the Broward County Property Tax Collector’s Office confirmed that motorists who receive a license plate they find offensive or objectionable may exchange it for a replacement at no charge. For now, however, Dello Stritto appears content to keep the now-famous plate while informing state officials about the accidental double meaning.
Whether she ultimately replaces it or not, one thing is certain: a random sequence of seven characters has delivered more laughs and conversation than anyone expected from an ordinary registration renewal.
