Trump Draws Blood With Megyn Kelly Menstrual Remark
August 10, 2015 – Donald Trump’s war with Megyn Kelly which began during Thursday’s GOP debate has now escalated with Trump taking aiming at the Fox News correspondent’s hormones. During a Friday night interview with CNN’s Don Lemon Trump remarked about Kelly:
“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”
Even by Trump standards, this remark landed with a screech across party lines including a major conservative event pulling his invitation. The Red State Gathering was held Saturday night, but Trump who had previously been scheduled to appear as the keynote speaker, was pulled from the event entirely.
The feud began during Thursday’s presidential debate, when Kelly called out Tump on his past comments referring to some women “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.” Trump felt he was being unfairly targeted by the moderators and went on a late night Twitter campaign to prove his point.
But Trump’s popularity is not to be underestimated — many thought his derisive comments about John McCain being a POW would be Trump’s death knell but in the following days his substantial lead over his GOP competitors held and even grew. “The blood coming out of her wherever” crack seems to have finally irked even some of his own supporters.
Sensing the backlash, Trump attempted to clarify his remarks via Twitter:
Re Megyn Kelly quote: “you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever” (NOSE). Just got on w/thought
No one really bought the “nose” explanation, but Trump later claimed “only a deviant would think anything else.” GOP opponents who had thus far avoided Donald Trump’s ire used the opportunity to pile on:
Mr. Trump: There. Is. No. Excuse. — Carly Fiorina (@CarlyFiorina) August 8, 2015
Sad but predictable meltdown from Trump. With all due respect to @megynkelly the outrage at Trump’s divisive language is long overdue.
